Bloomberg Terminal

The Bloomberg Terminal is by far one of the best tools for both the average and the institutional investors, analysts, economists, or students interested in finance and investment. The system provides access to structured data in one place for various asset classes: stocks, bonds, currencies, commodities, and derivatives. The Terminal has more than 80 functions, which allows for in-depth fundamental analysis. While carrying out the qualitative fundamental analysis, the use of such features as BI, BICO, or BRC provides access to the insights and opinions of the most competent analysts expressed on global economies, sectors, industries, or even individual companies. The quantitative fundamental analysis pays off in functions such as FA and RV which provide access to all financial statements in one place and allow comparison of similar companies. In this way, the time cost of the person performing the analysis is minimized, but the quality of the analysis is not affected. In addition, the system facilitates and speeds up the generation and search of investment ideas. Such functions as EQS or SRCH allow you to filter out stocks or bonds based on criteria selected by the Terminal user.

  • Economic statistics provide opportunities for the student to see the overall situation in the world and observe comparisons between different countries, forming a wide field of vision in developing critical thinking.
  • The student has access to professional market forecasts, which not only places him/her at an informational advantage, but by being able to see more broadly, the student can learn from professionals and discover the links between world events and forecasts.
  • After evaluating financial markets and global economic statistics, the student is able to critically assess the changing global situation, raise questions for generating research ideas and contribute to the progress by analysing and improving the current economic situation.
  • A student can independently obtain a Bloomberg certification that proves his or her exceptional qualifications.

I am a 2nd-year student of Accounting and Auditing at Vilnius University. I haven’t heard of Bloomberg before and I found out about it only recently. At first glance, this software uses a lot of words, numbers, and graphics that are hard to understand, but as soon as one starts to learn how to work with it, everything becomes very interesting. Although English is not our first language, Bloomberg’s lessons are clear and easy to understand. As for me, I really like to go back on the platform in order to analyse the data of memorable events and compare them with the current ones. The information is being updated on a regular basis which allows you to follow events and better understand finances, and I also see Bloomberg’s platform name more and more often on news portals. I think this software must be absolutely necessary to be used aiming to understand the ordinary actions related to day-to-day financial activities. I am delighted with it and recommend it to others!

I am a 2nd -year student of Economics. I recently found out that Vilnius University provides an opportunity to get familiarized with and gain some experience working with Bloomberg Terminal software. This portal is widely used in international financial companies and global banks in carrying out financial analysis, economic research, investment management and trading in financial products.

Offered and fully funded by VU, Bloomberg Market Concepts is a 10-hour formal training course that will earn you a certificate demonstrating your basic understanding and ability to use the system.

Experience with Bloomberg products is highly valued by employers and is often a requirement for employment in financial companies or finance departments of large multinationals. Thus one of the main reasons why you should be interested in this software is that the knowledge and practice with Bloomberg Terminal will not only give you an academic advantage but will also help you stand out from other graduates of economics and finance.

The second important reason is that working with Bloomberg Terminal will allow for a practical application of your economic and financial knowledge. This will help you understand why certain FEBA modules are delivered in VU programmes and will fill in your knowledge gaps.

Once you are interested in working as a financial or economic analyst, investment banking, financial management, or trading, I strongly encourage you to take this training and gain valuable knowledge.
