Nethra Dev, a graduate from India, shares her international study experience after completing her Master's in Global Business and Economics at Vilnius University – one of Europe's oldest Universities.
How did you end up in Vilnius, Lithuania studying Global Business and Economics?
I was searching for well-ranked European universities for my MBA, and Vilnius University stood out. Vilnius university's impressive ranking, affordable tuition, and diverse study programs captured my attention. Although I initially applied to a different city within Vilnius University's branches, the VU study office assisted in transferring me to the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEBA) for the Global Business and Economics program, since I realized that I wanted to study in the capital, Vilnius.
What was your study experience in Vilnius University?
VU FEBA has provided me a great opportunity to study in the Tuition Fee Waiver program – a priority on my list when choosing studies abroad. The professors at VU FEBA are highly experienced and international, offering an engaging classroom environment with practical tasks and group assignments. Participating in numerous international projects allowed me to connect with students from various parts of the world, fostering a global perspective. The curriculum, tailored to students' interests and expectations, empowered me as a class representative to collaborate with classmates and gather insights for enhancing our collective learning experience.
What about career perspectives here? Was it easy for you to find a job in Lithuania?
It was very important to me, that international students can work part or full-time in Lithuania while studying. During my time here, I changed three jobs until I found the one that suited me best. I work as a Client Onboarding Specialist at an international Fintech company. Finding a job here was never difficult for me since I have great networking skills. However, I must admit that foreign students, particularly those on student visas, enjoy favorable conditions for employment, and a degree from Vilnius University definitely adds a special recognition, enhancing one's employability in Lithuania.
How do you like Lithuania and it’s people in general?
Lithuania is a very good country to live, study, and work for me. It is one of the safest countries, especially given the recent global situation. Besides, Lithuania is a cost-efficient and affordable destination for most Indians, which is a significant factor attracting them here. I do have a lot of Lithuanian friends who are very lovely, helpful, and with whom I connect very well. To tell the truth, at first, Lithuanians tend to appear colder and keep a certain distance. However, you just have to work on breaking the outer shell. Once that outer shell is broken, Lithuanians are very soft, loving, and caring for their friends.
Is there any Indian community in Lithuania?
Yesss!!! I love my Indians in Lithuania community. I am one of the committee members, and we organize Indian events every now and then to bring Indians together and create a sense of unity and community. I am also religious, and there is a Hindu temple here – ISKCON (International Society of Krishna Consciousness). I go there and volunteer on my free time. All this helps me not to feel so homesick and gives a sense of home here in Europe.
Would you recommend Vilnius University for other Indian students?
Definitely! I would recommend it for anyone who is hard working and persistent, because you can get Scholarship at VU not only for bachelor but for masters degree too. You can enjoy living in the heart of Europe and get work experience in top companies while studying. Not to mention best networking opportunities that good specialist have in a smaller countries and markets like this.
