How to apply to Vilnius University Economics and Business administration study programs?
Application process is really simple:
- You need to login in (create an account) here: https://apply.vu.lt/
- Choose what you want to study (important note: put study programs in the order of your priorities – the system checks eligibility from the first one in the list. If you get accepted to the first program in your list, system will no longer check the others)
- Fill in some information (about yourself, your education, work experience (if you have any))
- Provide two email addresses of people who could write recommendations. The owners of these emails will get notifications to sign in and write recommendations
- Write motivational letters to all the study programs you are applying to (important note: motivational letters have tremendous value while evaluating applicants – you need to show who you are and why you want to study particular program)
- Attach the application fee receipt (application fee is €100 (non refundable) – once you sign in here: https://apply.vu.lt/, you will find an invoice in the Finance section (important note – application will not be considered unless the receipt is attached)
- Attach all the required documents (scanned copies are enough for applying, however, you will have to bring certified copies of original documents (or original documents) to the University) and submit the application.
- All the required documents are listed by country here
- If the application is approved, you will receive an email from the Admissions Committee with the appointed time for a motivational interview (important note: we know that motivational interview might sound a bit scary, but there‘s nothing to be scared about – our Admissions Committee people are super friendly and they really want all international applicants to succeed!).
- After a couple of days the final answer will arrive. It usually takes no more than 5 days from motivational interview to receiving an answer.
- Once you receive positive feedback, you will be asked to pay tuition fee for the first year of studying.
- After receiving tuition fee, you will receive necessary documents and will be be able to apply for Temporary Residence Permit.
What are the criteria for admission?
First of all, the study coordinator will check the documents you have submitted to ensure that they correspond to the reality of the situation, and if they are found to be forged, law enforcement authorities will be informed.
Then, it will be checked whether the applicant has paid the application fee. If approval is received, the process moves on to the assessment of the cover letter and grades. Grades are assessed on a case-by-case basis. Depending on which country the applicant is from. For example, the minimum admission criterion for an applicant from Bangladesh is at least a 3.5 GPA, for an applicant from Nigeria at least a C6, etc.
After this procedure, the selected candidates will be invited for a motivational interview.
Could the Admissions Office check my educational documents before I submit my application?
Documents required for the application may only be checked after you submit a application form in apply.vu.lt. and after paying application fee. In order to make sure that you are eligible to apply, you should check the general requirements for admission, country-specific requirements and study programme-specific requirements (these could be found at each programme description) and make sure that you meet all of them.
IELTS/ TOEFL required?
IELTS and TOEFL are not compulsory, as your level of English will be tested during the motivational interview.
What happens after receiving acceptance letter?
Once a student is accepted, our international department sends them an email with all the information what they need to do next – basically what documents they need to get in order to come to Lithuania legally. What they (international students from non-EU, EEA, EFTA countries) usually need for coming to study in Lithuania is to get a temporary residence permit (in the Migration department, or in the agency called International House Vilnius (this agency has migration department officers working in their office).
A student also needs to pay tuition fee (the main rule is to pay the tuition fee for the first year of studies within 15 calendar days after the day a student receives an invitation to study). Then to get insurance at their home country, finnaly a student needs to find a place to live (if they were not offered a place at a dormitory, which actually happens rarely), open a bank account and arrive to the university to register.
You can find some more information here, but the student is always informed what they need to do and what they need to bring (documents for entering a country, valid passport, birth certificate, educational documents, etc.)
What to do if I am under 18 years old?
According to Lithuanian laws, a person under 18 years old cannot make legal contracts. However, there are not many contracts a student needs to sign in the beginning of their studies. What they actually need is:
- to open a bank account
- to sign accommodation documents
- to sign University documents
- to sign documents required when applying for temporary residence
Unfortunatelly, neither University, nor other insitutions provide legal guardianship for underaged students, but the issue is sloved with a relative who comes together with a child, signs all the papers, takes a look at a place where a student is going to live and then leaves. Usually parents/relavtives get Shengen visa.
How to get a place in a dormitory?
When you are filling in your application form, you need to indicate that you need a dormitory. After that you do not need to do anything extra. Most applicants are usually given the opportunity to live in a dormitory, but it is advisable to fill in the application form as soon as possible, indicating that you want to live in a dormitory.
You will receive an email to let you know if you have been granted a dormitory
How to prepare for a motivational interview?
The study coordinator checks your motivation to study in your chosen study programme, so you have to be prepared to answer a series of questions about Why did you choose Vilnius University?; About the structure of the study programme?; How will the study contribute to your skills in your career? etc.
If you are applying to several study programmes, your motivation for studying will also be assessed separately, so you should be familiar with all the programmes you want to study in detail.
